February 18th, 2012, in Sanaa, Yemen, U.S. President Barack Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, John O. Brennan, met with Yemen’s Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi three days before the Yemeni “election” in which Hadi is the only candidate on the ballot. Brennan delivered a letter from Obama to Hadi in which “Obama said he looks forward to deeper relations between the two countries and vows that the U.S. will be ‘a strong and reliable partner.’” Yemeni forces killed at least 270 people during protests since last January and “thousands more protesters were injured by live ammunition.”
